What's On?

 


Both Grizedale and Whinlatter have a programme of events throughout the year from family events run by the ranger team to large scale sporting events including adventure races, trail runs and car rallies. And of course, visiting the forest at through the year gives you a host of different sights and sounds, from the changing colours of the trees, to the different wildlife you can see. January
Walk off the winter blues in the crisp forest air or try out your new bike on the trails if the weather allows. The forests are open 365 days of the year - although do check this site for opening times for Go Ape, the cafes and forest shops, and the latest trail conditions.

The first signs of spring will be appearing in the forests - have a look out for them on your walk or bike ride. Sports events are in full swing; the Cumbrian Commotion at Grizedale on 23 March 2013 sees 1000 competitors run, bike and kayak across Grizedale or try the Whinlatter Mountain Bike Challenge

Bluebells and other spring flowers will be appearing across the forests and the Lake District Osprey Project will be gearing up for another season. Visit us during the Easter holidays for a great day out

The forests' plants and flowers will be in full bloom so why not visit for a walk or bike ride, to see them in all their glory. Bring a picnic or enjoy a meal al fresco, at the Cafe in the Forest, Grizedale or Siskins Cafe in Whinlatter

It's national bike week in June so come and enjoy some biking in the forests - single track mountain biking trails in Grizedale and Whinlatter and family cycling trails in Grizedale. Visit the Osprey viewpoint at Dodd Wood or the interpretation display at Whinlatter visitor centre

We can't guarantee sun but when it does shine, the courtyard at Grizedale's Cafe in the Forest and Siskins Cafe balcony at Whinlatter are lovely places to enjoy an ice cream. Work up an appetite on the Whinlatter WildPlay trail or try Go Ape and swing through the trees.

Come and enjoy the changing colours of the landscape as autunm comes to the forest. The colours are usually at their height in the third week of October. As winter draws nearer and the forests are quieter, try a peaceful walk in the woods or take your bike on the trails. Do check trail conditions before you start if the weather has been wet or stormy.

Come to Grizedale or Whinlatter to buy your real Christmas tree. Have a browse in our forest shops for some christmas shopping away from the high street crowds and enjoy a mince pie and coffee in the cafe.
